Spark: Igniting social enterprise to prevent homelessness

Enterprise insights

SOCIAL ENTERPRISE: Encouraging business growth over grant-dependencyA key part of the Spark project is the “enterprise insights”, where teams of professionals from the private sector work in cooperation with the staff of a social enterprise to address a specific challenge that the enterprise is facing. This might include things like how to recruit and retain skilled staff, how to complete a useful financial forecast or how to establish an effective sales system.

For social enterprises, it's an opportunity to get access to expertise, for which the cost can be prohibitive, and to get an insight into the systems that well-established and large organisations use to grow.

For individuals from the private sector, “enterprise insights” is an test of their ability to apply their skills in a new context to help an organisation meet both financial and social goals.

It also gives people from a corporate background an insight into the both interesting and complex world of social enterprises.

All of the social enterprises that pitch at Spark's May 29 event will have the chance to win an “enterprise insights” pair up, which will be undertaken between June and November.

At the end of the challenge, the corporate teams will present their recommendations to the social enterprise and summarise what they have achieved in one day and what steps the enterprise should take in the coming months.
