Spark: Igniting social enterprise to prevent homelessness

Insight/Case study - beneficiaries

K. (Brighton)

I’m a single mother with a 12 year old daughter living in council temporary accommodation.

I started selling The Big Issue to make ends meet. Through sheer hard work I was given the opportunity to work one of The Big Issue’s prime pitches outside a supermarket in the town centre. Over time I became well known to the supermarket staff and customers alike.

Eventually I was offered a job at the supermarket and that’s where I am today. I now work full time and I’m in permanent accommodation with my daughter. All I needed was a bit of stability in my life to enable me to properly take care of my daughter and I’m very grateful to The Big Issue for being able to provide me with that.

With permission.
